More than 50% of Groupon’s Business Customers Won’t Do It Again

Is Groupon a raw deal for business owners?

We’ve heard a number of horror stories, so we wanted to see if these were the exception or the norm.

We also wanted to find out if businesses are burning out on Groupon…just before the company hits the public markets.

(A former daily deals salesperson says customers are wising up and that the going will be much tougher for Groupon, et al, going forward.)

If Groupon’s growth has been driven by curious businesses just trying the service once, the growth is obviously unsustainable. And Groupon has not yet released any information about repeat customers.

So we conducted a survey of small business owners who have actually offered Groupons to find out what they think of the service. We got 16 verified responses from business owners who have dealt with Groupon. This is obviously not a comprehensive pool, but it provides an interesting snapshot of what some companies think of the service.

Massive surge in smartphone access to retail says comScore

Rating: Curiously it’s mostly browser rather than app based traffic

Figures just released by comScore, showing an enormous increase in the number of smartphone users accessing online retail sites – which confirms a trend which GoMo News has long spotted. The figures are for the five leading European markets (France, Germany, Italy, Spain plus the UK). The number of smartphone users accessing online retail sites in the UK has increased by a whopping 163 per cent but Europe as a whole experienced 80 percent over the last year. Across all markets, online retail sites were accessed through a browser by a greater percentage of smartphone owners when compared to app access. Overall some 5.8 per cent of all mobile subscribers (13.5 million users) accessed online retail sites in Q2 2011.Jeremy Copp, comScore Europe’s vp for mobile, warned, “While mobile access offers retailers incremental occasions to engage with customers, it also provides customers the ability to easily compare prices at competing retailers while inside a particular retailer’s store.”

SMS Text Message Marketing DOES NOT Work! Or does it?

SMS Text Message Marketing Does Not Work!

That’s what they tell me. When I ask why it doesn’t work, I have been told a number of different reasons. A few of them are “no one signs up for my program” or “people are opting out of my program” or “I sent a message out to my email list and did not get very many subscribers”.

The result is the attitude that sms text message marketing does not work. Well, what I found out is that is does not work unless you have a plan. Our company is a mobile marketing agency. Not only do we provide sms text message marketing programs, we help you with a plan. If you do not work the plan you will be one of those who say that text message marketing does not work. The nice thing about Pinpoint is that we do not charge you for the planning. The reality for us is that if your program is not successful, we are not successful.

Most SMS Text Message Marketing companies set up your account and tell you to call them if you need anything. Or they tell you that everything you need to know is on their website. “All you have to do is watch the videos.” This is a path for failure. Their price is usually pretty good, but if your program does not work, you paid too much. We are a little different, we assign you an account manager and that account manger is responsible for your success. Your account manager will put a “marketing plan” together with you; if you will follow that plan your program WILL BE successful.

As a matter of fact, I will guarantee it! If you follow the plan and it is not successful we will refund all of your money after 120 days. SMS text message marketing works! I can send you dozens of case studies showing that it works. Most of the top retailers in the country are using SMS. You say, well they have big marketing budgets. You are right, but our program is designed around small business and the small business budget!

Here our deal. For single location businesses we have a program that starts at $25.00 a month. It includes 400 outbound messages per month. And just as important, it includes a mobile website for your business. You say that 400 messages per month doesn’t sound like much. As your program grows we grow your package. The next package is 1600 messages for $65.00/month including the mobile website and after that we go to an unlimited outbound text program that is $150.00 a month. If you have more than one location we have programs designed for you as well. All of our programs come with our 120 day guarantee.

Business Owners Are Getting Sick Of Groupon And Groupon Clones’ Pitches

Matt Rosoff | Jul. 27, 2011, 1:53 PM

A former LivingSocial salesperson recently told us that the industry is saturated and headed for a major shakeout.

Based on the attitudes of some restaurant owners in San Francisco, he’s right.

At a dinner last night hosted by social network marketing startup Roost, several restaurant owners said they were getting fed up with daily deals pitches.

Joe Hargraves of Tacolicious said that he has probably gotten 40 pitches over the last year from Groupon and other daily deals salespeople. He refuses them all — his prices are already low, and he doesn’t think he’ll gain anything by one-time discounts to people who otherwise wouldn’t be interested in his place.

Instead, he takes the several thousand dollars per month he would spend on daily deals marketing and other forms advertising and makes regular trips to Mexico, which helps him improve his product. He also blogs about his trips, which creates a much more personal connection to his customers.

See Why Facebook’s Leaked iPad App Was Worth The Wait

Facebook’s long-awaited iPad app leaked this morning, and it’s pretty good.

TechCrunch cracked the latest Facebook iPhone app and found the iPad version hidden inside.

(If you want to know how to get it now, click here.)

Since it’s not the final version of the app, there are a bunch of bugs, but we were still able to get a good taste of the product.

The layout is beautiful, much better than the app Friendly, which many have been using as a Facebook alternative on the iPad.

We were able to play around with the app this morning. Check out the screenshots below.

How to get people to call you back?

Oldphone

Yes it is a telephone. The problem is that I can’t figure out why people do not return phone calls. Am I alone? I know, you expected to read an article saying that I figured out how to get business owners, marketing professionals, or other potetial business partners to call you back. I am sorry, but I have not figured it out. As a matter of fact, I am hoping that some of you might have a few good ideas. I am not just talking about people that don’t know me or have never talked to me before. I am also talking about people that have requested i call them, or that I have met with and they expressed interest in our products. An exmple would be a situation that just occurred. I contacted an orginazation about being in a event they have coming up in a week. This looked at my product and said that it looked very interesting and that i would hear back from them in two days. Two days would be cutting it close in alowing enough time for preperation, but we could still manage. I waited for the phone call that never came. I emailed and called him to see what was going on. No response. Today, I receive an email from another individual regarding the program requesting information about our compnay to be included in the program brochure. I still had not heard back from the person in charge letting me know that we had been excepted. I than contacted the second individual and taol her my situation. She said that she would make a phone call and find out what was going on. At this point i still have not heard back and it is too late for our company to be a part of the program. I ay alll of this because this type of communication seems to be the norm these days. Don’t you think it would be easier to just tell me that you do not want to do business with my company than to drag things on day after day. Am i the only one who is experiencing this or are there others like me out there. Please let me know your thoughts and opinions.
