The Early Days of Google

In late 1999 Larry Page is qouted as saying “If we can’t win on quality, we shouldn’t win at all.” At that time they only had 8 employees and $0 marketing budget. Today, they have 28,768 employees and 3.6 billion searches a day. The comment came during a conversation concerning the fact that their competion was approaching Google’s level of quality and it was suggested that they rely on branding to differentiate them from the competition. I think we should all take a step back and stop worrying about our brand and worry about our quality. Once we get the quality right, the brand speaks for itself. Just a thought…..
